This is a really awesome sauce. and for those of you who don't know, Arrabbiata Sauce is SUPPOSED to be spicy. so make basic spaghetti sauce if you don't like spicy foods to spare this.

The ingredients needed to make Arrabiata Meat Sauce:
  1. Get 2 tbsp olive oil
  2. Prepare 2 medium yellow onions
  3. Make ready 2 lbs meatball mix (beef, pork, veal ground mix)
  4. Take 6 links hot Italian sausage
  5. Prepare 3 (28 oz) cans Cento crushed tomatoes
  6. Prepare 1 (12 oz) can Cento tomato paste
  7. Make ready 3 (12 oz) cans diced tomatoes
  8. Take 6 cloves minced garlic
  9. Get 6 tablespoons grated Parmesan
  10. Take 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning
  11. Take to taste Salt
  12. Get 4-6 bay leaves
  13. Get to taste Pepper

Pasta Arrabiata literally means "angry pasta" in Italian. Arrabiata sauce (sugo all'arrabbiata) is a spicy (angry) tomato sauce that's made with plenty of olive oil, garlic, chopped tomatoes, and red pepper. These useful spices can be used to cook so many different meals! A spicy pasta al'arrabiata - or spicy tomato sauce to you and me - an easy storecupboard pasta dish for a weeknight supper.

Steps to make Arrabiata Meat Sauce:
  1. Sauté diced yellow onions and garlic in a few tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add meat (open sausage links and add just the contents) and sauté until most of the pink has disappeared. Stir well to separate meat into small bits.
  3. Add the cans of crushed tomatoes, the tomato paste, diced tomatoes (with their juices), Parmesan, Italian seasoning, bay leaves, and salt and pepper.
  4. Let simmer on low for at LEAST 2 hours (ideally 4) stirring every 20 minutes or so. Do a taste test about an hour before sauce is done (but not before two hours) and add more salt/seasoning to taste.
  5. Serve over any pasta you like! (Note: remove any bay leaves when serving). Leftovers freeze well and can be defrosted and reheated for easy weekday meals.

These useful spices can be used to cook so many different meals! A spicy pasta al'arrabiata - or spicy tomato sauce to you and me - an easy storecupboard pasta dish for a weeknight supper. I was so long overdue for a pasta dish (without meat) and for those of you who feel the need to have meat every night, just add a few meat balls to this pasta dish and voila! So Arabiatta sauce won the poll for favorite sauce. Literally meaning "angry," arrabiata is known for it's spiciness - something very popular in my Italian famiglia.
