The ingredients needed to make Collard Greens:
  1. Make ready 1 bag cleaned collard greens
  2. Take 1 ham hock bone or leftover ham bone
  3. Make ready 1 cup cubed ham or leftover ham
  4. Get 2 cup water
  5. Take 1 Tablespoon vinegar

Traditionally, Southern collard greens are made with pork. Add onion and garlic; cook and stir until tender. Add ham hocks, water, seasoned salt, pepper flakes, and sugar. Strip the leaves from the tough stems of the collard greens.

Instructions to make Collard Greens:
  1. Place ham hock in pot and pour bag over it then top with ham and bacon pieces add seasonings now.. I use salt lightly, pepper, garlic, and laity it of Lawrys salt
  2. Place on a medium high heat once it comes to boil you will hear a simmer stir and cover pot with lid .. Looks similar to this
  3. Stir occasionally for at least 2 hrs I do mine on lowest setting simmer.. They will turn a dark green.. But taste as you go you might not like yours as tender as mine!

Add ham hocks, water, seasoned salt, pepper flakes, and sugar. Strip the leaves from the tough stems of the collard greens. Stack the leaves, roll them up and cut them into thin strips. To the skillet with the bacon and onions, add the garlic and red pepper. Collards are in the same family as kale, mustard greens, and other hearty greens.
