  2. for sauce: in medium saucepan cook mushrooms and onion in butter until tender
  3. stir in cream cheese, salt, and pepper. cook and stir over low heat until cheese is melted.
  4. gradually stir in milk and chives. heat through.
  5. add 1/2 cup parmesan cheese to spinach and artichoke.
  6. mix sauce with spinach mixture.
  7. spoon into 2 qt baking dish. sprinkle with remaining parmesan cheese.
  8. bake at 350°F for 10-15 minutes until heated through and bubbly
  9. can be served as a side dish or used as a dip with tortilla chips, pita chips, bread, or anything that can be dipped
